Through music I am able to better appreciate the sense of sound as it allows me to appreciate how artists are able to create a unified melody through the use of different sounds and exemplifying how an artist can creatively express themselves through the sense of sound.
I usually listen to music extremely loudly, helping to block out any surrounding sounds like people talking or machines working so that my brain can have a break from the constant sounds of everyday life. With a pair of headphones and music, a different set of sounds essentially overwhelm my sense of sound so that I have a sense of peace. This often helps me work better, making it important that I always have music on while I work.
With the help of music, I am able to use the sense of sound to connect to my emotions better. If a song has more low and mellow sounds, creating a sadder atmosphere, it amplifies my more negative emotions, sometimes making me cry or feeling lonely. On the other hand, when a song contains sounds that rely more upbeat and light feelings, the song can bring up my mood and make me feel happier.
Personally, sound affects how I am throughout the day. Living in the city, sometimes I can be overwhelmed by the sounds from cars, places, and people. Even in more private places where sound might be minimal, sounds from machines can bother my work flow. I can get irritated by a repetitive sound, so for me it is very important to have the right sounds when working. When I listen to music, I am in control of what I hear while working. Music is essential to my work flow and my overall productivity, especially when I am trying to do creative works. After sight, I believe that sound is the most important sense to me.
